Hebrew University’s Magnes Press Drops US Supplier to Work with CDI
October 24th, 2012 - Jerusalem, Israel
Named for the University’s first president in 1929, Dr. J. L. Magnes, the publishing house was established with four goals in mind: a) Provision for the teaching, research and scholarly needs of the university, b) Expansion of available resources of scholarship in the Hebrew language on Jewish and general topics, c) Publication of works by university scholars and d) Publication of works beneficial to scholarship and mankind, and specifically research in Judaism.
To a great extent the Magnes Press has fulfilled the goals envisaged by its founder and directors. There are about 3,000 titles published in Hebrew and various other languages in numerous areas of research.
“We were one of the first global university presses to move into the digital world,” said Magne's CEO Hai Tsabar, “and because of this we know what it takes from a technological point of view to succeed. Even though we were working with a US based company, when we were introduced to CDI and saw what the NetIS engine had to offer,, the shifting to their solution was obvious".
“We are honored to be able to work with an institution recognized worldwide such as the Hebrew University publishing company”, said CDI’s CEO Itzhak Levit. “Our NetIS platform is an enabling technology designed exactly for clients like this who are research, or information based with a vast library looking for ways to both protect, distribute and monetize their assets over the Internet.”
